About GigaGas
GigaGas is a Nigerian gas and electricity company. GigaGas has built a 175 mmscfpd modular gas processing plant at Obotobo Community, Forcados North Bank, Delta State. The plant can seperate incoming raw gas into (i) dry natural gas that meets stringent gas pipeline transportation standards, (ii) condensates that are stabilized liquid at standard atmospheric pressure and temperature, and (iii) natural gas liquids (NGL) that can be stored in standard international standards organization (ISO) liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks.
The Federal Government of Nigeria appointed GigaGas to receive raw gas produced from Oil Mining License (OML) 118 under a production sharing contract (PSC), and deliver processed gas that meets the West African gas pipeline transportation network to power stations on Nigeria's national electricity grid. The processed gas will be transported through Escravos Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), owned and operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Once in operation the project will help address the persistent gas supply challenges of power stations on Nigeria's national grid that are supplied gas through ELPS. This gas constraint, in combination with distribution and transmission constraints, limits power actually delivered to consumers in Nigeria to the maximum ever achieved on 1 March 2021 of 5,801MW, although installed capacity of the existing generation stations is 12,900 MW and their actual generation capability without the gas constraint is over 7,500 MW.
